You are faced with a conflict in an important relationship, a spouse or partner, a family member, a coworker, boss or business partner. Although unsure about how to move forward, you do know that simply ignoring the situation is not an option. Conflict coaching offers the space and support to work through the issues and develop a plan to move forward. Conflict coaching is an excellent choice when either you or the other parties to the conflict are not ready, or willing to engage in a joint process. It is also a valuable resource in preparation for, or concurrently with, mediation or litigation.

What is Conflict Coaching?

Conflict coaching is one-on-one confidential conversation. As your coach, I serve as a non-judgmental, supportive neutral helping you reach a deeper and richer understanding of the conflict. I have adopted the coaching model developed by Trish Jones of Temple University, and Ross Brinkert of the Pennsylvania State University. This model is designed to be a finite process focused on managing a particular conflict.

The Coaching Model

Together we will explore the drivers of the conflict for you and other parties through the lenses of

  • Identity: how you see yourself in relation to the others and how you believe others see themselves;

  • Emotion: what and how feelings might be fueling behaviors and reactions; and finally, and

  • Power: assessing your ability to change the situation.

With this deeper understanding, you are empowered as the decider to envision possible paths forward, craft your best story, design a strategy, and work on developing the skills necessary to fulfill your vision.

The Process

Typically, this process takes 4 to 5, 90-minute sessions. However, the model is adaptable to meet the needs of each client. When appropriate, additional sessions may be devoted to exploring persistent patterns of behavior, developing a more effective communication style, and building other skills that may be essential to conflict prevention and containment. The benefits of this process extend well beyond the immediate conflict.

A per session fee of $300 is payable at the conclusion of each session. Virtual sessions are available thereby eliminating geographic limits, and easing scheduling constraints.
